The project I’m going to show you today brings warmth to my heart. I have not made many dolls in my life, but I have love every second of the few times I have made them. Last year I made 5 little bunnies as Christmas gifts for my daughter’s friends. I never knew if the girls liked their bunnies, because they never said anything. Well I guess is the risk of give hand made items, it is not the cup of tea of everyone! but what i know is my kids love the dolls I have made for them in the past, then this Christmas morning they are going to find a pretty doll made from the patten the Urban Jungle Animal Doll and I’m going to have two happy kids.
The Urban Jungle Animal Doll Is the new pattern designed by Celina, head boss of Petit à Petit + Family. The truth is that is not only one pattern, she has created five crews: Crew 01 – Fox, Racoon, Deer; Crew 02 – Bear, Panda, Pig; Crew 03 – Tiger, Cat, Alicorn ; Crew 04 – Lion, Bunny, Dog and Crew 05 – Mouse, Sheep, Bird. On top of all that cuteness, she also have designed some clothes for the animals. It is just to good!!!
Well getting into the topic, although I was planing two dolls for the post today, I only managed to make one -the other one is under construction!- . I talked to my kiddos and proposed a plan, they were able to choose the animal they wanted, but I choose fabric. In this way I think still will be a surprise when they open the wrapping paper on Christmas day.
Mi daugther’s Alicorn is made with needle cotton corduroy I had on my stash, NOSH black sweatshirt for face details and wings, also some gold taffeta for the rest of details. I interfaced all the pieces because the corduroy was a bit on the thin side. Making the wings was a bit of a nightmare because all the intricate cuts -of course, is a wing!- and the material I choose was not the best for the job. NOSH sweatshirt is very stretchy, and if I pulled it to much that could distort the features of the face then, I decided to interface and stitch before cut the wings and it worked fantastic! although for next time I need to remember to use black interfacing on black fabric, because I can see small bits of the with interfacing between layers.
To dress her, I used the t-shirt of basic clothing that comes with the pattern and made a very easy skirt with elasticated waist. It is classic and very easy to get in and out of the doll. I need to make more little clothes, they are so perfect and my daughter loves to changes clothes several times a day, then she will be able to do the same with her new doll.
Well as I have said, was a delight to make this doll and right now on my bench, I have a blue lion roaring to be finished before the 25th! then I have to get my hands on the fabric.
