Pattern Tour, What I made, What I Made/Lo que he hecho

An Ishi dress and walking on the grass

These days, dresses are miss VI usual attire. There is not human power to make her use a pair of trousers. I’m not sure how many dresses are enough for a little girl, so I couldn’t resist to make the dress (and probably not the last one) I’m showing you today. The Ishi dress is  the newest pattern designed by An the author of Straightgrain blog. I think An’s blogs was one of the first sewing related blogs I followed, The first project from her that I came about in  cyberspace, was a very simple toddler skirt made with a fat quarter of fabric (which it seems I can’t find anymore in my Pinterest boards! An, I hope you remember the skirt I’m talking about or is it ancient history?)

Let’s talk about the dress, shall we? The Ishi dress has an A- line shape, features princess seams and pockets in the side panels. Has two options for sleeve length (short and long), two options for the pockets (straight and slanted) as well as two options for closures (Zipper and buttons). Comes in a widely range of sizes (1 year to 10 years).

IshiDress_6Let me tell you about the pattern/tutorial, because I think An do a brilliant job (it is not the first time I make something from her patterns, time ago I made this dress and last week a Lua sleep sack soon to be blogged!) When I read her tutorials, always feel her warm personality coming though and of course you are going to find some humor in there!-spice the sewing time with some extra fun – Also the technical stuff well explained, material list, measurement tables cutting diagrams and the step by step sewing instructions, among others. Definitely I would say to you to give it a try!

The process to make the dress was a bliss. When I choose the type of fabric, I was a bit worried It would be difficult to work with, but you know what? It wasn’t bad at all. I think I have to thank a bit to my Juki , she is really nice behave with every single type of fabric I have tried on! (touching wood, I hope I’m not cursing my luck saying this) The part that I would advice being careful, are the princess seams. In the case of this double gauze, at least, remember not (I repeat, not) pull the fabric lots or otherwise is going to distort the borders. Just a gentle ease will do the job, believe me the pattern pieces are made to fit between each other like a glove.

Oh!!! I really need to talk about this gorgeous fabric designed by  Naomi Ito fabric!!! is a double gauze, light, flowy and perfect for summer. Without any doubt I have a love affair for Nani Iro fabrics, mainly a contemplative one, because cut into the fabric almost hurts!! that is why I even used the selvage (because is as gorgeous as the rest of the fabric) now is hidden as part of the button closure.

Ok, that’s for today, I really hope you have enjoyed my Ishi dress and of course, if you would like to indulge your eyes with beautiful Ishi’s, please visit the other blogs that participated on the tour.
