Pinterest

BlueSkatedressI use to navigate the “sea” of Pinterest almost every single day. I think it is a marvellous source for inspiration and at the same time of procrastination -at least for me-. Every time I’m checking Pinterest I feel like a kid in a candy store, so many beautiful things! but so few time -well in the case of the kid, probably not so much pocket money to buy the sweet treat-.

I made this skater dress by Kitschycoo a few weeks ago and I was so excited in the way the dress came out. I made a couple of changes from the original pattern  by adding flat piping in the waist line, a little bow as detail and cuffs and neck bands in a contrasting colour. But checking the board I have for kids clothes inspiration, I found this pin and the dress I made looks so alike to this one! I thought I was hacking it, but I swear I didn’t copy…I hate copying, I’m all for unique style and that is why I like to make things, I’m anti cloning.

No me gusta copiar, me gusta hacer cosas originales y diferentes.

After the shock  and,  here my tropical heritage came to the surface -hey, a little bit of drama always add spice to the day-, I thought I use Pinterest for inspiration and just simply because I like to admire beautiful things-. It is ok that my dress share things with the dress I pinned, because there were two main reasons I spotted it: the contrast between colours and the circle skirt!. And when I came to that conclusion I felt a bit better.  I need to be less hard on my creative process and just let it go. Now let’s start my new project because we had enough spice for today or perhaps I will take some better pictures of this dress and give you all the details soon.

What do you think? Do you like Pinterest? if you like it, what are your personal reasons?

  1. What a gorgeous dress, Maria! Love the colors. I use Pinterest quite a bit, sometimes too much time is wasted on Pinterest. There so many beautiful things to drool over and get inspired. I hardly ever copy something, but sometimes it’s just exactly what I want. I think as long as you give the credit it’s ok to do. 🙂

  2. The dress is beautiful. I dont think you have copied . As an artist you draw inspiration from many sources. Some conscience others subconsiously it is very hard if not impossible to produce something truly unique . Unless you erase 100,000 years of history , or there is technological advancement in what from or how i.e clothing is produced.
I look forward to the next beautiful creation from my favorite artist .
